OHMYGOSH!!!!!

Things are really hopping in Llanview, PA. these days. There has been a drug ring that the Mayor and some Russian Mafia guys were running(where the mayor of Llanview met any Russians is beyond me.) They were duped by Cole, the teenage father and boyfriend of Starr (he's not her father they have a child named Hope) so to get even and out of town, the Russians kidnapped Starr and the baby.
For the rescue, there were stunts!! There are hardly ever stunts. First John McBain threw himself through an open window and then Bo Buchanon(the police commissioner--you know how they get involved in all the crimes in your fair city) did a somersault right through said window. He's around 60 years old. It was pretty impressive let me tell you.
At the hospital where the only doctor to be seen for months was John McB's baby brother, Michael, there are now 3 doctors and even a couple of nurses and good thing too, as my friend, Shaun got shot at least twice and is in need of brain surgery which his brother will perform.(!)
In the same rescue, former Navy Seal, Brody Lovett, got reamed on a metal pole and he needs surgery stat!! He is (of course) the boyfriend of the girl whose husband just died around a year ago. He did save Starr and the baby though. That Starr!! She just hightailed it with Brody and into the boat that was waiting for her and she paddled her little arms of to get outta there!
Will Shaun die? Will Brody?? Will Bo have a spastic back for the rest of his life? Will John Mc Bain's brother ever find out it took three doctors to replace him?
I don't know but I can't wait to find out!

A Starr by Any Other Name

I haven't talked about my soaps for a long time so today I just have to! I know I talked a lot about John McBain before( see John McBain/John McCain) but that man has been a non-stop talker since he hooked up with his new squeeze, Blair. Their relationship is very, shall we say, complicated and I won't explain here. But fair warning to Blair, John's girlfriends always end up sad, dumped ...or dead. Anyway, they started out as just friends and now they are more than that. Blair is a grown up too --she has kids, with Todd Manning, the resident bad guy who recently had John's last girlfriend who was suffering from amnesia holed up in his house while everyone else thought she was dead. Even her son, Cole. He just happens to be the boyfriend of Todd and Blair's daughter, Starr.
Starr is really the only one in all of Llanview who has one iota of sense. She did make a "tiny" mistake and became pregnant but she handled that in a mature way, making arrangements for the child to be adopted and she even made a little video for the child's 16th birthday to explain her decision.
Anyway, everyone thinks that the baby died but she didn't she was just switched at birth with a dead baby by her cousin with DID...that's multiple personality disorder if you don't know. The kid has handled that situation with grace and dignity. She projects the proper amount of sadness and determination to get on with her life.
Starr was really on her game today. She has a new teacher who just happens to be the son of her obstetrician who killed herself because she thought she had been neglectgful in Starr's baby's case. (It is a soap, after all)
Starr has told this young man that she doesn't blame his mom and that she was a good person and she knows how he feels and he shouldn't blame himself and as she is giving the poor guy a little sympathy hug, enter Cole who is now taking pills to cope with the return of his mom and the death of his baby.
Cole goes off on the teacher and blames his mother for his child's death, etc, etc while also accusing him of coming on to Starr, who is appalled and tells Cole that he should have some sympathy for the poor guy for aforementioned reasons.
She said that everyone makes mistakes and nobody's grief is more important or significant than any one elses.
When they return to the hallway Starr figures out Cole has taken something and she lets him have it and at the end of the day, of course, she is caught with the pills in her hand and she will probably take the fall.
This kid is 16 years old!!! I'm telling you she should grow up to rule the world. When she is an adult, she will be able to run every big business on the show and that includes two newspapers, a magazine, and some kind of giant conglomerate called B.E. I admire this kid so much. She is my new hero.
The actress has been on the show since she was a little girl(probably 5 or so) and she has grown to be a wonderful, natural actress. I don't know if she ever reads blogs, but I hope she reads this one. Keep up the good work, kid and don't let the writers screw up your character. You really are a shining Starr!!

What's the Matter with Kids Today?(In the soaps)

It is really tough to be a soap opera kid. They keep you off camera a lot, you have major medical problems, and you grow up too fast(usually a ration of 7:1). You have to be cute but you always have to behave. You can't act like a real kid because then adults would have to pay attention to you. It isn't pretty. Let me explain in no particular order. Here they are.
First, there is Spike.(oh, yes, that's his name--not a nickname) He is my favorite. He had a difficult birth. He's deaf but has an implant. He has a brother that was born a preemie on the day Spike was kidnapped(almost). He just turned two and has had more problems than any normal adult. His dad was a sperm donor who turned out to be his mother's former fiancee. She got impregnated by an evil doctor so she could have this guy's kid for another woman. It didn't work out so she kept him.
Then there is poor little Bree. She is on a different show than Spike. She just turned two also. She has real parent problems. Her mother has a split personality and her father just died...on her birthday. They actually took that poor kid to say goodbye to her father as he lay dying. He was all bloody and had tubes coming out....she is definitely on her way to the family illness---split personality like Mom and Grandma. But no worries because her cousin Sam (formerly known as Tommy) will be right there with her. His mother was murdered after he was born, he was adopted twice, reclaimed by his insane father and now is being fostered by his father's ex wife. He will come by his alters legitimately and how lucky is he??? He already has two names!
One of the longest lasting children on One Life to Live is Starr Manning. She is Sam/Tommy's half sister. She has been a pip from day one. She has gone through her father being missing, almost killed for murder(falsely accused of course), found a man who was being tortured and saved him and now at 16 years old she is pregnant by her boyfriend after only one night together. She has doubts about becoming a mother and her insane father doesn't know she is pregnant. She has more sense and brains than the entire adult population on the show. She will do the right thing. Oh yes, she likes snakes too. The most interesting thing is ,though, Starr has always been played by the same actress. Since she was about 5 or 6, I think. She is the only soap kid I know who has been allowed to grow up naturally and hasn't been sped up at the 7:1 ratio.
Her poor brother Jack is a different story. I don't know how many kids have played him but at least they keep him younger than Starr as he should be.
Then there is poor Kathy on All My Children. She is the child of Tad and Dixie who was adopted not once but twice(noticing a theme here?) and has finally after almost 7 or 8 years has finally been reunited with her father(mom is dead...another common theme). I read in the spoilers that she is going to have some adjustment problems.........REALLY????????????
Petey Courtland is coming back after a long absence(7:1 I'm betting), Emma is off the show as the mom is being let go(unless they kill her off and then Emma can stay with her dad, the sperm donor), Michael Corinthos is in a coma for 7:1 purposes, Frankie(who is an adult now but was a kid and at the age of 25 has been a doctor, fought in Iraq, and is back to being a doctor) was just reunited with his dad after 20 YEARS!!! Shane Marasko has a fake father as his unaware real father is kept in the dark.......I could go on but I think you catch my drift.
I have only scratched the surface. I'm sure I could think of many more examples but I think you have the idea. It's tough to be a soap opera kid!
